Conceptual Model of Expansive Rock or Soil Swelling

The paper presents a simple yet efficient way to track the void ratio, water content, and degree of saturation swelling material during saturation. research aimed quantitatively describe drying wetting processes material, which should enable their better understanding easier modelling. Two identical tall samples, named “twins”, were formed by consolidating paste prepared from in montmorillonite is dominant mineral. twins together exposed one-dimensional drying. After drying, lasting for 40 days, one twin was dissected determine its content profile. other subjected 1D (ponded infiltration experiment) with constant column period 21 days then moisture sample preparation reduces uncertainties about initial state. results show that wetting, follows path e-w plot parallel full curve. reaching some saturation, becomes residual (shrinking) line. proposed model predicts primary secondary phases swelling, under appropriate conditions, it assumes tertiary phase.
